Launder’s debut album, Happening, is a compelling blend of shoegaze and lo-fi college rock with a serious contemporary indie pedigree. Co-produced, engineered, and mixed by Sonny DiPerri (My Bloody Valentine, DIIV, M83) at Elliot Smith’s former studio New Monkey, the album features the talents of main man John Cudlip backed by DIIV’s Zachary Close Smith, Day Wave’s Jackson Phillips, and French artist Soko. The songs are elegantly crafted and emotionally impactful, evocative of hazy summer days and wistful summer nights. Happening is an album that feels steeped in intangible yearning, a pleasantly dreamy and slightly melancholy collection of songs that’ll stay in heavy rotation as summer fades into fall.
