Heart Under [Translucent Blue Vinyl] (LP)
Just Mustard
Amoeba Review
Every once in a while, a record comes along that gives you that same arrow-to-the-heart instant love obsession you felt when you were first getting into music and making those band discoveries that would inform your lifelong listening habits. For fans of shoegaze and post-punk, Just Mustard’s Heart Under should reignite those fires. The Irish shoegazers traffic in doomy ethereal with an undercurrent of brooding menace. Singer Katie Ball’s haunting vocals call to mind a contemporary Cranes, while the melodies evoke Mazzy Star at their moodiest, or an even darker Mezzanine-era Massive Attack. Lovely, melancholic, and immensely moving, Heart Under shouldn’t slip under your radar.
