Heaven's Just A Cloud (CD)
Spirit Was
Amoeba Review
Spirit Was is the new project from multi-instrumentalist Nick Corbo (ex LVL UP). Heaven’s Just a Cloud is a fascinating and effective blend of lo-fi indie, doom, black metal, and a sort of dusty backwoods Americana. Maybe you’re reading that thinking, “Whoa, hold up, doom and Americana?” Well, trust us: in musical form, it’s an atmospheric, beautifully-constructed album in the tradition of classic underground metal. The mood is hazy and haunting, dark and distant. The music itself is droned out and distorted, growing from hypnotic, intimate vocals to a crashing crescendo of sound. Compelling and cathartic.
