Holy Smokes Future Jokes [Yellow, Red & Blue Splatter Vinyl] (LP)
Blitzen Trapper
Amoeba Review
On Blitzen Trapper’s Holy Smokes Future Jokes, frontman Eric Earley looks beyond mere existence towards the intermediate period – the transitional state between death and rebirth. Inspired by George Saunders' 2017 novel Lincoln in the Bardo and the Tibetan Book of the Dead, Earley's lyrics take the listener on a wild journey. One minute we’re wading through rivers in the aftermath of a tragic car wreck and next we’re getting blitzed inside a masonic temple or getting chips and dip before the apocalypse. This unique album is a cosmic musical exploration of what it means to escape the cycle of birth and rebirth, and it is truly out of this world.
