With their new album II, Mike Patton, Dave Lombardo, Michael Crain and Justin Pearson are back in action as Dead Cross. The band sounds more relentless than ever as these fierce, driving tracks combine chugging metal riffs with hardcore percussion and inimitable vocals. Some of the album’s brilliant and brutal intensity comes from Crain’s cancer diagnosis; he has stated that every element of the album was powered by “the slow, excruciatingly painful, and nauseating recover from cancer treatments” and that anguish, refusal to back down, and catharsis are all achingly present within these tracks. This is what hardcore is all about and it’s no surprise Dead Cross continues to deliver.
