Into The Blue (LP)
Aaron Frazer
Amoeba Review
On his second solo album, Into the Blue, Aaron Frazer puts a fresh new spin on throwback neo-soul. With Frazer's sugar sweet falsetto voice and vivid, layered melodies, you'd be forgiven for thinking this album came straight out of the 1960s. But listen closer and you'll notice a diverse range of influences: psychedelia, spaghetti western, rock 'n' roll, gospel and hip-hop all add to the texture. Co-produced by Alex Goose (Freddie Gibbs, Madlib, Brockhampton), and featuring Frazer's first work with samples, it's fascinating to hear how hip-hop informs these tracks. This dazzling album is one of the year's best.
