Isles [Picture Disc] (LP)
Bicep
Amoeba Review
Bicep (Matt McBriar and Andy Ferguson) follow up their 2018 debut with new album Isles, a work that reflects on their experiences relocating from Belfast to London. Absorbing the latter's eclectic music sounds, these simmering tracks blend rave-style euphoria with urban angst. "Atlas" skitters its way anxiously into lush, haunting swells with ghostly vocals. "Apricots" is ominous and melancholy, a perfect soundtrack for a gritty sci-fi film, while "Saku (feat. Clara La San)" and "Sundial" bring in the clacking percussion of drum and bass. Yet "Sundial" transcends that genre and mesmerizes with its ethereal vocals. This is artful EDM at its finest.
