Jude [Olive Green Vinyl] [Autographed] (LP)
Julian Lennon
Amoeba Review
Yes, Julian Lennon’s seventh studio LP Jude is a nod to the Beatles’ song “Hey Jude.” It’s a track Lennon has had an ambivalent relationship with over the year; Paul McCartney wrote an earlier version of the track, “Hey Jules,” for the then-five-year-old Julian in the wake of his parents’ divorce. That sentiment is in line with the inner explorations the songwriter is doing on this new album, as he looks back on his own history and how it has made him the person he is today. It’s fitting then, that the album feels alternately intimate and iconic over the course of its run time. Highlights include “Save Me,” which starts with the somber, melancholic aura of a Radiohead track, and “Lucky Ones,” a gentle track with an underlying sense of wonder and optimism.
