Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Rendition Was In) (CD)
Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings
Amoeba Review
Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Rendition Was In) is an album of impeccable covers by Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, recorded either for soundtracks or tribute projects as well as just for fun. The marvelously reworked Janet Jackson's "What Have You Done For Me Lately?" (also on the band's debut album) falls into the latter category, while Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours” was commissioned, giving the late great Sharon Jones the excuse to knock those vocals out of the park. Other highlights are Dusty Springfield's "Little by Little," which is delightfully dark and slinky, and Bob Marley & The Wailers' "Hurts To Be Alone," which shows off the different textures in Jones' incredible voice.
