Arca
Amoeba Review

How do you even begin to describe Arca’s music? It’s just bonkers! There’s a wide variety of influences spread across these four albums including, but not limited to glitch hop, reggaeton, cumbia, ambient, trance, and even classical. The CD versions also have some of the coolest packaging I’ve ever seen. Make sure you buy them all for the full experience.

In Arca’s Kick i-iiiii series, she draws on club music, experimental noise, performance art, and the ballad tradition of her native Venezuela. Each Kick installment is its own boundary-pushing sound exploration, paired with strikingly futuristic cover art. From the sparkling “Born Yesterday” with Sia on Kick ii to the gentle, elegant “Estrogen” on Kick iiiii to the industrial-meets-reggaeton “Riquiquí” on Kick i to the spastic, surreal “Skullqueen” on Kick iii, it’s clear that Arca has invented her own, truly otherworldly sound.
