King Of A Land (CD)
Yusuf (Cat) Stevens
Amoeba Review
It's probably no surprise that the children's album by Yusuf / Cat Stevens, King of a Land, isn't strictly for kids. With "peace" as the album's inspiration and guiding light, the tracks are rooted in the sort of clear-eyed innocence possessed by children and sages, powered by Yusuf's faith in God, and infused with his gentle, firm hope in the future of humanity. These are story songs with acoustic and folk bones, occasional orchestral flourishes, and moving textural elements like birdsong and playful laughter. King of a Land is a tender, lovely dream of a better world, which might be just the thing, whether you're eight or eighty.
