LIFE ON EARTH (CD)
Hurray For The Riff Raff
Amoeba Review
It has been five years since we last heard from Hurray For the Riff Raff. Their latest, LIFE ON EARTH, is a welcome and very timely return. Singer Alynda Segarra refers to the band’s sonic evolution on the album as “nature punk,” which is a pretty apt description for the album’s tight-wire act as the mood balances between hope and transcendence, despair and destruction. Segarra’s voice is honey sweet as the melodies genre-bend elements of alt-rock, indie, folk, and Latin music, her lyrics bold and unapologetic as she explores social and ecological crises. LIFE ON EARTH is a stirring, emotionally-charged, and beautiful album that feels like a roadmap forward for those who believe a better world is possible.
