Little Songs (CD)
Colter Wall
Amoeba Review
Troubadour of the Canadian West Colter Wall returns with another fresh take on traditional country music. Little Songs features eight originals plus two covers, Hoyt Axton's "Evangelina" and Ian Tyson's "The Coyote & The Cowboy." Wall's gruff, familiar baritone ranks up there with the classic country singers, the spiritual and artistic descendant of greats like Townes Van Zandt, Hank Williams, and Johnny Cash. The tracks alternate between rollicking, rural good times numbers and plaintive high plains ballads. Even if you've never experienced the majesty and loneliness of the Saskatchewan prairie, Little Songs will make you feel like you're there.
