Ground-breaking rock band The Damned exploded on to the British music scene more than forty-five years ago. Following their formation in 1976, The Damned became the first UK band in the punk rock genre to release a single (“New Rose”) and then an album (DAMNED, DAMNED, DAMNED). Initially associated with the British punk rock movement and then gothic rock, the band went on to release ten studio albums and several UK-charting singles which ran the gamut from punk rock to gothic to pop. They have legions of hardcore fans worldwide and have firmly established themselves as one of the most powerful and theatrical live bands in the world.
The Damned’s twelfth studio album, DARKADELIC, catches the band once again evolving and expanding upon their unique universe and features some of The Damned’s sharpest song writing and genre-bending performances. Alongside Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible, Paul Gray, and Monty Oxymoron, William Granville-Taylor joins the band on drums.
The lead single and video for “The Invisible Man” is a showcase for Captain Sensible’s riffadelic guitar work and David Vanian’s snarling baritone vocals. “You’re Gonna Realise” and “Beware of the Clowns,” drenched in classic horror movie references, nods to swinging '60’s London and a refined palette of musical influences. The Damned will indeed paint the world DARKADELIC in 2023.
