La Doña Album Release Party & Signing

San Francisco's own La Doña joins us at Amoeba SF on Thursday, September 5th at 5pm for a signing of her upcoming album, Los Altos de la Soledad. DJ Nasty Nick will be spinning tracks from the new album (and more) during the signing. Los Altos de la Soledad will be available for purchase at the event, a day before its release, exclusively at Amoeba SF! Buy the album that day to get it signed and meet La Doña.
And is it really a party without food?! To add to the fun, the Al Pastor Papi truck will be parked right outside Amoeba from 4pm-7pm. Plus, Ooey Chewys will be in our ticket window with their crazy delicious cookies. (Reminder: there’s no food or open drink containers allowed inside the store.)
Los Altos de la Soledad chronicles La Doña’s sensuous journey through love, migration, and political awakening. These stories are told through corrido, bolero, son jarocho, cumbia, and reggaeton, and pay homage to La Doña’s upbringing as a Chicana growing up in San Francisco’s Mission District. The album features spoken word, student interviews, field recordings, and a full orchestra. This is La Doña's debut album, created with support from the California Arts Council’s Creative Corps Fellowship via 18th Street Art Center.
La Doña is a solo artist, music educator, activist and cultural worker from San Francisco. La Doña, born Cecilia Cassandra Peña-Govea, began her career at age seven playing trumpet, strings, and percussion in her family’s conjunto. She is a student, teacher, and preservationist of Latinx traditional arts like corrido, bolero, cumbia, and mariachi. In her compositions, she combines these ancestral traditions with contemporary diasporic musics like reggaeton, hip-hop, and jazz. La Doña is releasing her debut full-length album, Los Altos de la Soledad, through her fellowship with the California Arts Council’s California Creative Corp.

Nick DeRenzi (AKA DJ Nasty Nick) is a vinyl selector from the SF Bay Area who blends his passion for uplifting local music and party slappers into every set. Nasty Nick will get the party grooving and will keep the people moving to soulful, funky, and nasty tunes.
