Look To The East, Look To The West (CD)
Camera Obscura
Amoeba Review
It has been over a decade since the last Camera Obscura release so Look to the East, Look to the West will certainly be met with both sighs of relief and sighs of jubilation. Because the band sounds as lovely and wistful as ever on these tracks. "Big Love" adds some Americana twang to the band's candy-sweet '60s-inspired indie pop sound. "Liberty Print" is pensive and poignant, a heartbreakingly lovely tribute to bygone friends and bygone times. "We're Going to Make It in a Man's World" is both funny and sad — with a title like that and a lilting Phil Spector-influenced style, how could it not deliver on both fronts? Welcome back, Camera Obscura. We missed you and we're glad to hear you sounding as gorgeous as ever.
