Bat for Lashes’ Natasha Khan trades in the lush, moody atmosphere of England for the neon-lit cinematic streets of Los Angeles on her latest, Lost Girls. The album sees Khan spreading her wings into new sonic territory; the disco-driven “Feel for You” feels worlds away from the could-be-‘80s-soundtrack lead single “Kids in the Dark” and the dark, haunting “The Hunger.” As always, of course, there’s a transcendent, otherworldly quality to the Bat for Lashes oeuvre, even as Khan looks to new creative inspirations (the desert, the film industry) and evolves her existing preoccupations (childhood, the 1980s, synth-pop). Lost Girls is a gorgeous, lyrical daydream of an album fans will eat up.
