Making A Door Less Open (LP)
Car Seat Headrest
Amoeba Review
The first new material from Car Seat Headrest since Teens of Denial in 2016, Making a Door Less Open was recorded with the concept of individual singles in mind, giving the anticipated album a varied, eclectic sound. "Martin" may be a jangly indie rock tune with a soaring chorus, but "Can't Cool Me Down" sparkles with programmed bits and bobs, and "Weightlessness" has a quirky magic to it with its stuttering, pulsing rhythms. Posing as the masked character "Trait," Will Toledo uses electronic elements from his 1 Trait Danger side project to excellent effect on these well-constructed songs. There are shades of Spoon and Okkervil River sprinkled throughout as well as a little Peter Gabriel.
