Mother (LP)
Cold Beat
Amoeba Review

San Francisco's Cold Beat find their surest footing yet on fifth release (and first for James Murphy's DFA label), Mother. Named after band leader Hannah Lew's newest role in her life (she was pregnant during its recording), the songs pay tribute to their 80s forebearers (early Eurythmics, Berlin, Depeche Mode) while still sounding contemporary. Mother finds the band in masterly control of their spacey new wave pop, feet firmly on the ground while their heads are in the stars (and hands on the synths).
