Music To Be Murdered By (LP)
Eminem
Amoeba Review
Longtime Eminem fans will find much to love on the artist’s surprise #1 album, Music To Be Murdered By. Em sets the tone right off the bat, with atmospheric interludes featuring samples of Alfred Hitchcock derived from the same 1958 orchestral compilation from which the Detroit rapper borrowed the name of this album. It should come as no surprise, then, that this is Eminem at his most uncompromising, reveling in offensiveness, delivering his signature mile-a-minute wordplay with relentless flow, and — yes — working in as many homicide references as possible. On a lyrical front, it’s classic Eminem. When it comes to the beats, Eminem pushes us into what sounds like the future…albeit a fittingly dystopian one, where melodies are straight-up ominous bangers. Royce Da 5’9”, Ed Sheeran, Juice WRLD, Anderson .Paak, Q-Tip, Black Thought, and a whole host of others stop by for a bit of screentime in this latest installment in the Marshall Mathers show.
