My Echo (CD)
Laura Veirs
Amoeba Review
Laura Veirs' eleventh studio album marks the end of her relationship (both marital and musical) with producer Tucker Martine, and thus there is the theme of escape from a deteriorating situation. The wistful "I Sing to the Tall Man" is perhaps the most direct in its reference to her divorce. The songs are frequently delicate and melancholy ("Brick Layer" is perhaps the strongest), but this is not the depressing therapy session one might imagine; "Memaloose Island" is sprightly and "Another Space and Time" is gently upbeat. There are clear signs of hope on My Echo.
