Nervous At Night [Opaque Yellow Vinyl] (LP)
Charlie Hickey
Amoeba Review
Pasadena’s own Charlie Hickey explores stepping away from the familiar and into the untrodden roads of adulthood on his debut album, Nervous at Night. Out on Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory Records, the album’s an exquisite fusion of pop-oriented songwriting sensibilities with an indie ethos. Which is to say you’ll have lyrical phrases and choruses looping pleasurably through your mind long after that heart pang of emotional recognition you feel in the instant you first hear Hickey sing about anxiety, excitement, and longing. An easy-to-like, easy-to-relate to album from a songwriter with a gift for capturing those little moments on which life’s bigger events seem to hinge.
