Kim Gordon
Amoeba Review
07/24/2020
Kim Gordon's first solo record shows the veteran artist experimenting with new sounds, reflecting her taste for the avant-garde. Her husky, brooding vocals are mesmerizing on the stop-and-start electronic “Sketch Artist,” interspersed with quiet moments of dark strings. Like the mysterious, muttering “Paprika Pony,” it's more like an art piece than a song, which is fitting for Gordon who has recently returned to making visual art. “Hungry Baby,” on the other hand, has a sense of psychedelic, grungy joy to it – still dark but possessing a kind of freewheeling energy that is contagious.
