Kate Stables' exquisite songwriting is on full display here on this new record, produced by Josh Kaufman. "Started Again" builds beautifully from its subtle start into something quietly epic. Stables' banjo playing is clear and cool instead of the more familiar jangly sound, rendering "This Is What You Did" into a delicately frenetic folk song about late-night anxiety and insomnia. It also lends a Sufjan Stevens airiness to "Shinbone Soap" as well as in a few other places.
