OK Human (LP)
Weezer
Amoeba Review
OK Human is the first of two new albums Weezer has planned for 2021. The familiar formula of strong melodies tied to lyrics about being awkward and lonely is enhanced here by a pretty string section -- for example on the catchy single "All My Favorite Songs" -- and it's a welcome change from the pseudo-rapping or Top 40 production elements of other recent Weezer albums. "Aloo Gobi" follows a similar theme but with pleasant layers of piano, especially on the soaring bridge. "Grapes of Wrath" incorporates sliding strings into its slice of pop perfection. Then there is "Playing My Piano," a chamber pop tune with just a touch of The Kinks' style of theatricality.
