Other Girls (LP)
Lillie Mae
Amoeba Review
08/04/2020
Lillie Mae's folk and string band background meshes well with the current indie country/pop sound, but she stands out for both her fiddle skills and distinctive, jaded-but-sweet vocals. The arrangements on her new album, You've Got Other Girls For That, are lush and unique with plenty of nice details: “Other Girls” builds on a melancholy melody and layers of expressive guitars, and “A Golden Year” has lovely bursts of la-la's in its plaintive verses that call to mind The Shins in an otherwise haunting folk song. “Terlingua Girl” is swooping and sweet with a quirky outro that brings in distorted guitar for an unexpectedly darker ending.
