Banned Books Week at Amoeba Hollywood and San Francisco October 1-7

Banned Books Week in SF & LA

Many books in the US and abroad have been banned or challenged in schools, libraries, and bookstores for decades, including children's books, novels, and comics. In 2022, the American Library Association documented 1,269 demands to censor library books and resources -- the highest number of attempted book bans since ALA began compiling data about censorship in libraries and nearly double the 729 book challenges reported in 2021.

Banned Books Week is an annual event that celebrates the freedom to read and shines a light on the harms of censorship in libraries and schools. For more than 40 years, Banned Books Week has brought together librarians, teachers, booksellers, publishers, writers, journalists, and readers of all types who support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.

This year's Banned Books Week is October 1-7, 2023. Head to Amoeba San Francisco or Amoeba Hollywood during Banned Books Week and pick up a banned book! Let freedom read!
