Owls, Omens, And Oracles [Yellow Vinyl] (LP)
Valerie June
Amoeba Review
Every so often, an album comes along that seems made for the moment. That's the case with Valerie June's miraculous, magical Owls, Omens and Oracles. Produced by M.Ward, the album features The Blind Boys of Alabama as well as an excerpt from Valerie's book Maps for the Modern World. Album opener "Joy, Joy!" is a full-throated anthem melding fierce, gritty electric blues, gospel, and throwback R&B; it's simply a spectacular song and its admonishment to "find that joy, joy in your soul" feels essential in our increasingly chaotic world. A wonderful album from the eclectic, electrifying Valerie June and co.
