The Legacy Edition reissue of Dennis Wilson’s only solo studio album Pacific Ocean Blue proves many things: first and foremost, it serves as a testament to Denny’s true songwriting craft, and that he wasn’t just “The Beach Boys’ drummer,” or only “Brian Wilson’s brother.” His 1977 debut is suffused with eco-awareness, romantic yearning, and calm contemplation, while recalling the impressive pop styles of the Beach Boys’ 1966 magnum opus, Pet Sounds. While Dennis greatly surpassed everyone’s expectations of what “just one of the boys in the band” could be, sadly, Pacific Ocean Blue was sorely overlooked upon its initial release; subsequently, in the years following his premature death in 1983, the album never quite made it past cult favorite status. But with this engaging, handsomely packaged reissue, the album lives again--and, in superb remastered sound! Also included in this reissue is a second disc featuring long-lost sessions for songs that Dennis meant to comprise his second album Bambu (which was never completed before his death).
