NYC's Palberta maintain their post-punk energy but embrace a more melodic sound on their fifth studio album, Palberta5000. Fun, fast songs like "Before I Got Here" still deliver prominent bass, erratic rhythms and intertwined guitar lines, but "Corner Store" embraces a kind of sludgy indie pop with a sunny vocal melody. The young trio's vocal harmonies are a consistent highlight throughout these idiosyncratic tunes that fiddle with different time signatures and eschew standard song structure. Definitely a band to watch.
