Amoeba Review
07/21/2020
Formerly of the pop act Chairlift, Caroline Polachek strikes out under her own name with her debut solo album, Pang. Named after a feeling that is "something very internal that kind of pricks you emotionally from the inside," Polachek imbues these songs with personal heft and experiences that are resonant with her audience looking for articulation of those same emotions. Many of the best pop songs interweave a thread of sadness and melancholy within an upbeat confection; on Pang, Polachek proves she's the latest to master this trick -- one of the many on display in this rich offering.
