Passion: [Music for 'The Last Temptation Of Christ'] (CD)
Peter Gabriel
Amoeba Review
Joanna Ricco 05/26/2010
Light years away from anything he did with Genesis a decade earlier, Peter Gabriel’s Passion is a world music masterpiece. Assembled as the soundtrack for the Martin Scorsese film, 1988’s The Last Temptation of Christ, Gabriel employs field recordings with a definitive Middle Eastern influence throughout this album. A rich tapestry of sound, it’s as sweeping in cinematic scope as it is in style (North African cullings, mostly). The whole thing comes together as a cohesive work with a narrative structure that underlies its breadth, and it further establishes Gabriel as adventurer in the world genres.
