Ozzy Osbourne’s Patient Number 9 finds the legendary rocker taking on his usual themes with a fittingly outsized sense of humor and a middle finger pointed right at death. Of course, Ozzy’s occult influences have worked their way into his oeuvre for years, but this time around there’s the added pertinence of his recent health issues, which brings added depths to the carnivalesque spectacle of Patient Number 9. The tracks are bigger than life, with bold riffs and grandiose choruses that fit the album squarely into Ozzy’s catalog of classics while also sounding fresh and contemporary. Listen for appearances from Eric Clapton, the late Taylor Hawkins, Tony Iommi, Jeff Beck, Zakk Wylde, Josh Homme, and Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready.
