Perfect Teeth (CD)
Unrest
Amoeba Review

Perfect Teeth, Unrest’s final album, is inconsistent. It’s not pretty. It’s not perfect. But it is good. And, sadly, it’s evidence of a band’s career being cut way too short. Moving abruptly from a melancholic track like the album opener “Angel I’ll Walk You Home” to the punky “Cath Carol” with no song to bridge the gap makes for an awkward listen. Despite the unsettling nature of the sonic dissonance, Unrest does not falter in either discipline. That alone makes 1993’s Perfect Teeth a testament to the band’s unrealized potential. “Breather X.O.X.O.” moves in yet another direction as a robust, yet lo-fi arrangement with sweet, misleadingly innocent choral layering.
