Pianoworks (LP)
Eluvium
Amoeba Review
08/10/2020
Ambient artist Matthew Cooper AKA Eluvium returns to solo piano for his new album, harkening back to his 2004 release, An Accidental Memory In The Case Of Death. Pianoworks is unabashedly gentle and contemplative, with tracks like the aptly titled “Underwater Dreams” designed to conjure childhood wonder; opening track “Recital” is even directly about children's piano lessons. The release includes a lush triple LP version on mother-of-pearl color vinyl with 76 pages of sheet music from Cooper’s entire career. That version and the deluxe CD include bonus tracks like “Radio Ballet,” which is breathtaking in its simple beauty and stirring, nostalgic melody.
