Praise A Lord Who Chews But Which Does Not Consume; (Or Simply, Hot Between Worlds) (LP)
Yves Tumor
Amoeba Review
Yves Tumor’s ascent continues with the wild and wonderful Praise a Lord Who Chews But Which Does Not Consume; (Or Simply, Hot Between Worlds). With an aesthetic still rooted in the artist’s noise rock roots, Yves Tumor’s sound continues to evolve into an unpredictable, enjoyable fusion of punk, R&B, and experimental—this is pop music seen through the looking glass. (And like, maybe pop music seen through the looking glass on Mars.) Highlights include “Lovely Sewer,” an enthralling and intoxicating track that hits like the steep and perilous descent into love and lust. Meanwhile, “Operator” comes in like a classic post-punk track then quickly becomes distorted, spacey, and deeply weird. But all the songs are killer. Praise a Lord is another top-notch record from a creative provocateur making some of the most challenging, exciting, intriguing music today.
