Promises is an extraordinary nine-movement work recorded over five years by Sam Shepherd (AKA Floating Points), Pharoah Sanders and the London Symphony Orchestra. The melding of gentle electronics, jazz saxophone and orchestra swells is free-floating and airy, with a largely meditative atmosphere. Altogether, the album is an absorbing soundscape of peaceful rumination, with sweet-sounding strings opening up like a flower in the final movement.
