Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed & The Way to Suck Eggs (CD)
Ministry

What does Ministry’s Alain Jourgensen know? Well, he knows how to mix the creepy with the decadent, the elegant with the repulsive, and the organic with the inorganic . . . and that’s what time it is on 1992’s Psalm 69-the Way to Succeed and the Way to Suck Eggs, one of the pivotal albums in bringing industrial music crashing back home to suburban teens. “N.W.O.” packs a solid, unrelenting punch right off the bat, it’s pure assault and racked with endorphins. “Jesus Built My Hotrod”—which features Gibby Haynes of Butthole Surfers fame—is easily the most well known track from the album, and it’s all aggression. There’s on unintentionally laughable track, “Psalm 69,” which has over-the-top choral and orchestral arrangements. And, there again, even that one breaks the bars down and launches into speed metal and clubs the funny business right out.
