Purest Hell [Baby Pink Vinyl] (LP)
P.H.F.
Amoeba Review
The indefinable P.H.F. returns with another genre-smashing, mind-expanding album, Purest Hell. P.H.F. creates their own world of sound by fusing snotty punk, chilled out vaporware, intense industrial, and frenetic electro. The album was penned in tribute to songwriter/producer Joe Locke’s dear friend and collaborator Reuben Samuel Winter, who died in the fall of 2020. The songs feel like a chronicle of that experience: the ups and downs and stasis of the grieving process, the unexpected stabs of sound, the welcome moments of peace and the slow crescendo of celebration of a life that shone briefly but brightly. Intriguing, inventive, and experimental.
