Rajan [Red Clay Colored Vinyl] (LP)
Night Beats
Amoeba Review
As Night Beats, Texas-born, LA-based Danny Lee Blackwell writes woozy, after midnight tracks with a psychedelic bent. On Rajan, Blackwell's sixth Night Beats album, the tracks move seamlessly from Eastern-influenced, urgent mindbenders ("Hot Ghee") to rain-streaked urban exotica ("Blue") to grooved out psych rock ("Nightmare"). It's the perfect soundtrack for all the wild and wonderful possibilities that exist before sun up in the city. Rajan has to be one of the coolest and most captivating albums available right now.
