Though Patrice Rushen has thrived as a jazz pianist, film composer, and musical director for the Grammys and other TV specials, she is perhaps best known for her 1982 hit "Forget Me Nots," recorded during her 6 year stint at Elektra Records, and which would later be sampled and reworked into Will Smith's 1997 song "Men In Black." Strut Records' Remind Me: The Classic Elektra Recordings 1978-1984, collects Rushen's best material from these years. Full of sparkling, punchy bass lines, gentle keyboard riffs, and smooth grooves, Rushen's Elektra-era songs perfectly hit that post-disco, quiet storm R&B feel. With her softly confidant vocals, Rushen not only creates a sensual mood, but also evokes a sincerity that further strengthens the quality of her recordings.
