Rites Of Percussion (CD)
Dave Lombardo
Amoeba Review
The power, depth, and diversity of percussion are on fine display in Dave Lombardo's mighty solo debut, Rites of Percussion. The Slayer co-founder sets the mood with aplomb on these tracks, creating cinematic soundscapes that feel cosmic and funky, bristling and atmospheric, tense and driving. Self-produced by Lombardo and mixed by his son David A., the percussionist's arsenal includes an impressive concert bass drum, shakers, timpani, maracas, Chinese and symphonic gongs, Native American drums, congas, timbales, bongos, batás, wood blocks, djembes, ibos, darbukas, octobans, cajóns, cymbals, and grand piano. Lombardo has long been known as a talented, risk-taking percussionist; this album spotlight's the varied capabilities of these beautiful, impactful instruments.
