Romance [Clear Vinyl] (LP)
Fontaines D.C.
Amoeba Review
On their latest, Irish post-punks Fontaines - D.C. strike out into new territory. In this case, it's the softer side of Romance. Well, softer at least on the surface. The songs still seethe with boiling intensity, roiling with dissatisfaction and stewed by longing. The edges are less hard but the pummeling force and the latent darkness is there, beneath the surface of these gripping songs with their crescendoing '90s alt-rock choruses meets Brit-pop swagger in a scuzzy, dimly-lit alley feel. Romance shows off how multi-faceted this brilliant, intriguing band is.
