Scatter The Rats (LP)

Amoeba Review

On Scatter The Rats, L7's first new album in two decades, the '90s legends summon their original energy and spirit for a no-frills set full of muddy guitar riffs and snarling vocals. If you're feeling nostalgic, “Burn Baby” is a freewheeling, grungey throwback for you and “Proto Prototype” is satisfyingly sludgey. “Garbage Truck” is more of a punk rock stomper and the chugging “Stadium West” throws in a little psychedelia. The real outlier here from the band's old sound is the melodic track, “Holding Pattern,” with its catchy, head-bobbing chorus.
