Screen Violence (LP)
Chvrches
Amoeba Review
Chvrches embrace the darkness on their latest, Screen Violence. The band continues to craft buoyant, perfectly polished synth pop gems; this time around, they're bringing more melancholy into their always glamorous mix, even recruiting The Cure's Robert Smith for a duet on "How Not to Drown." It's one of the highlights of the album, with Smith's lush, velvety voice contrasting nicely with Chvrches frontwoman Lauren Mayberry's candy sweet vocals. The other tracks are equally promising, with the band continuing to evolve their song through lyrical explorations of loneliness and fear. Screen Violence might just be the perfect indie pop album for the grand highs and lows of 2021.
