Gruff Rhys returns with the easy-to-love, shockingly catchy Seeking New Gods. “Mausoleum of My Former Self” features triumphal horns, retro synths, and a cozy, lived in vibe that will inspire repeated spins. “Can’t Carry On” starts with dreamy female vocals before segueing into addictively feel good ‘70s style harmonies on the chorus. And “Loan Your Loneliness” has to be the cheeriest possible meditation on feeling alone, thanks to upbeat piano, and the aforementioned cosmic synths. An excellent entry into the Gruff Rhys catalogue that melds grooved out atmosphere with a sunny alt-pop sensibilities.
