So Kono (LP)
Salif Keita
Amoeba Review
Legendary Malian singer-songwriter Salif Keita is back with So Kono. This is Salif Keita as you've never heard him before: stripped-down, minimalist, raw, and acoustic. Having long resisted the idea of an acoustic album, Salif Keita decided to strike out in a new direction while at Japan's Kyotophonie Festival in 2023, with encouragement from producer Laurent Bizot (Nø Førmat!) and inspiration from the surrounding Zen temples. And thus So Kono came to be, recorded in his Kyoto hotel room with a small crew of artists including Badié Tounkara on ngoni and Mamadou Koné on percussion. Featuring reimagined classics and new works, it's a testament to Salif Keita's artistry and impact.
