Something In The Room She Moves (CD)
Julia Holter
Amoeba Review
Julia Holter's Something In The Room She Moves is a breath of fresh air, a breeze ruffling the curtains on a new spring day. Inspired by the birth of her newborn daughter, the tracks feel playful, expansive, and bathed in light. Always adventurous and gently experimental, Holter's compositions evolve even further on this album, fusing elements of avant-garde, jazz, folk, electronic, and chamber pop into something life-affirming and lovely. Opener "Sun Girl" was reportedly written to emulate the lulling, deep-rooted power of nursery rhymes and indeed the whole record seems to spring from the same opening of possibilities sensed only in childhood: it's a fairy tale of an album, filled with beauty, discovery, and wonder.
