Space Heavy (CD)
King Krule
Amoeba Review
King Krule’s Space Heavy is all about space: the spaces between us, the distance between cities, and the curious stasis of isolation. Written and recorded over the span of two years, the King himself, Archy Marshall, found inspiration commuting between his homes in London and Liverpool, where his partner had given birth to their child. This distance sometimes comes into the music: “If Only It Was Warmth” is trancelike and solemn, evoking a relationship that has perhaps grown cold. “Seaforth” is a post-punk gem with the feel of a wistful lullaby for imperfect times. Space Heavy may be occupied with isolation yet the songs are so warm, thoughtful, and well-crafted that the album is easy to connect to.
