Spanish Guitar
Peter Walker
Amoeba Review
James Elliott 05/25/2010
Peter Walker is a true original. An American guitarist that released the seminal Rainy Day Raga on Verve Records in the 1960s, Walker helped to form the genre of acoustic guitar music most closely associated with John Fahey and the Takoma School. Walker’s own style melded influences from bluegrass music, Indian ragas and Spanish Flamenco. After several decades of not releasing albums, Walker is back with new recordings and a heavy performance schedule. 2009’s Spanish Guitar picks up where the guitarist left off in the ‘60s, weaving a dense web of joyful, ecstatic fingerpicking with a focus on his Flamenco influence. As with all of Walker’s music, the songs here are stunningly beautiful and deftly performed. Highly recommended.
